5/28/14 Transferred to Salfid Rescue. Our expectant German Pinscher mix, "Claire," was trapped yesterday and is carrying a rather large belly full of babies. We are told the baby-daddy is a black lab and maybe one other passerby dog, heritage unknown. This mama deserves to deliver in the privacy of a home. UPDATE 5/22/14: Unfortunately, Claire did not make it to a foster home in time to have her babies but thanks to a dedicated volunteer who sat with her last night to make sure all went well, Claire delivered 7 sweet and healthy puppies. Thank goodness today, mom and kids are safe in foster care! The policy for adopting an unsterilized pet requires that you live in Campbell County, Lynchburg City, or a county touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and spay/neuter the pet yourself within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Kittens or puppies too young for spay/neuter may be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. We will be happy to help you make arrangements to do this. This dog is in a foster home and not at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility. We always begin with an application to adopt, and this will be forwarded to the foster family for review. You can find this on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org. Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242. Our process begins with an application, found on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org. Once your application has been received, a volunteer will call the references you list and then will contact you.
