"Poochie" is said to have been the "neighborhood dog;" Haven't we all experienced or heard about the dog like him, who just seems to appear from nowhere like he always lived there, and is cared for by no one, yet everyone? Who just is there, wandering from house to house, given food by everyone, yet no one really knows to which house he belongs?
Such was Poochie's life until last week. Poochie roamed the neighborhood, was everyone's watchdog, and made the rounds from porch to porch getting his special treats from some people, a regular meal from others. In the last few weeks, Poochie has become a bit grumpy and now has nipped at the neighborhood kids, and because of this, someone in the neighborhood did the responsible thing, much as they hated to do it, and asked our animal control folks to come out and pick him up.
Here is where the heartbreaking story begins. If Poochie had been given regular vetting with exams, vaccines, and bloodtesting, someone might have diagnosed his physical problems before they progressed this far. But now Poochie is under duress, and the culprit is most likely the egg-sized hard masses we discovered near his spine and lower back, just above his hip, as well as the hard lump in his neck, just below his ear. He also appears to have arthritic changes in his legs and joints. The only way to determine the source of his discomfort, and the prognosis, is of course with a vet exam.
We know that Poochie is housetrained, just from the times we have taken him out walking this weekend. He is great with women, tolerates men; he is housetrained despite never being in a home, and loves his time out on a leash for walks. Poochie needs love... and someone to step up and really care for him in his golden years.
A local vet hospital has agreed to donate an exam, if we can come up with donations to cover costs of bloodwork If YOU can help, please contact us or send your donation to our PayPal account at info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
Please help us help Poochie!
