Meet Ruger! Our ACO's received a call about a dog suffering from a gunshot wound, in Brookneal, VA. Taken immediately to the vet hospital, where he will undergo surgeryon Monday, Oct. 20th. We have no clue how or why this gentle giant became injured but we do know we will do everything in our power to help him. He is as sweet as can be and has a wonderful personality even though he must be in discomfort. The vet techs noticed he was excellent with children. Donations are pouring in for Ruger and we can't express how grateful we are. He will need a foster home soon but preferably someone to adopt him. Please fill out an application today so you will be ready when he is!
10/22: Update on gunshot wound victim RUGER: Ruger has been visited daily by our animal control officer, and she updates photos each day. Ruger is healing physically as well as emotionally. The surgical site is truly a work of art--like a patchwork quilt, the skin has been pulled and pieced together to cover the exposed skull. A drain was inserted to prevent fluids from building up.
Ruger is an extra-large border collie mix who is available for adoption. He comes with a built-in fan club of well-wishers who keep up with his progress. What an amazing, wonderful dog, to tolerate the pain and the incident and yet still remain optimistic about humans! His new human family will surely appreciate everything about him!
This dog is currently at the vet but soon to be in a foster home and not at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility. We always begin with an application to adopt, and this will be forwarded to the foster family for review. You can find this on our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242.
APPLICATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO ADOPT. Go to www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org
The policy for adopting an unsterilized pet requires that you live in Campbell County, Lynchburg City, or a county touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and spay/neuter the pet yourself within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Kittens or puppies too young for spay/neuter may be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. We will be happy to help you make arrangements to do this.
