Mastiff / Mixed : : Male : : Adult : : X-Large
Meet Lucas! Do you believe in miracles? Is there room in your heart to believe just one more? A true Christmas miracle is needed to help this very special boy this holiday season. Lucas' story of pain and suffering must be months old, and we will never know what happened to him or why he has suffered in silence for so long. What we do know is that there are people ready to step up to help him IF we can pull it all together and find $1000 to cover the anticipated medical costs to fix him up.
You see, Lucas has a displaced elbow, and it has been out of place for so long that there is calcification in the region. An orthopedic vet suggested that the most likely treatment for this painful injury would be amputation of the front leg. Because Lucas is a Mastiff mix, he carries enough weight around that it is important that his rear legs could handle the extra baggage if a front leg is removed. Surgery will not be considered if he has stability problems with his rear legs, so more diagnostic x-rays are needed before heading for the big surgery.
We are hoping enough facebook readers and animal lovers will rally to the rescue for Lucas. To meet this big lug is to love him! He is by far a hunky favorite of the volunteer dog walkers at the facility; to the folks who spend time with him daily, he is by far one of the most amiable dogs at the shelter. He adores every human he meets! He also loves dogs of all sizes---and is quite the nanny-dog around puppies! He is a magnificent size, friendly and very happy. LUCAS is also gentle on the leash and has a "soft mouth" when he takes treats out of your hand. Please help us help him! Our "Christmas Miracle for Lucas Campaign" is officially underway!
To donate to Lucas' Cause, mail checks to FOAC, 1400 Edley Place, Lynchburg, VA 24502. Or you may use Paypal, for convenience, (info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org), or you may drop off donations in person at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility, 322 Dennis Riddle Drive, Rustburg, 24588.
The policy for adopting an unsterilized pet requires that you live in Campbell County, Lynchburg City, or a county touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and spay/neuter the pet yourself within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. Kittens or puppies too young for spay/neuter may be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. We will be happy to help you make arrangements to do this.
For information on adopting this animal who is in care at the Campbell County Animal Control Facility, please call there: 434.821-4416. Hours are from 12 to 5 on weekdays and 11 to 4 on Saturday. Email us at info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
