Poodle (unknown type) (long coat) : : Male : : Senior : : Small
Senior poodle BUDDY was signed over to the shelter for one reason: His family didn't want to deal with his health issues. Ordinarily, we can overlook the human end of such abandonment but this one was really painful, since Buddy was separated not only from his human family, he was taken also from his blood brother, with whom h had lived since they were purchased as puppies together eight years earlier. That part of his history was really hard for us to adjust to. However, finding just the right foster home has made the transition easier for Buddy and for us. Buddy was diagnosed with diabetes, at levels so extreme he was more than likely showing symptoms for years. His foster mom tells us he is adapting well to his new routine and that his insulin levels are adjusted to a point where he is really feeling happy and energetic. He has pushed aside the sadness he felt when he was separated from his brother, and he is moving on with his new life. Buddy has a new furry friend at his foster home--another poodle the same size and age as he, and one who also takes insulin daily. It's like it was meant to be for this little man!
ADOPTION GUIDELINES:
Virginia’s Code requires that any unsterilized pets adopted from the Campbell County Animal Shelter may be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and have the pet spayed/neutered within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. If you live outside this area, the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home.
Puppies or kittens in care at the shelter too young to be spayed/neutered before adoption may often be adopted through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. There is an adoption fee required for this process. We ask that you have a veterinarian on record who can verify that your other pets were well-cared for.
Pets identified as being “fostered” are available for a fee. Fees range from $50 to $300. Fostered pets are not at the Campbell County Shelter and the animal wardens may not be familiar with those pets.
An Adoption Application, available at the Campbell County Shelter, or online at our website www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org, is required prior to adoption. Specific questions are most easily answered by email, info@friendsofcampbellcounty.org, or by leaving a voicemail for one of our volunteers at 434-485-6242.
