We ask that the pets in your home be current with rabies vaccines, spay/neutered, and seen by a veterinarian for wellness.

Meet Trixie! Sometimes foster families pull dogs from the shelter because they fall in love with them and sometimes it's just out of need for space. In Trixie's case it was the latter. The shelter was full, we needed kennel runs, so a foster family asked who and were told Trixie, so Trixie went home with them. Little did the family know Trixie is PERFECT. She is young, really close to a year, crate trained, house trained, GREAT with all animals (dogs, cats, doesn't even pay attention to the chickens), and LOVES kids and people in general. She just wants to be with a family. UPDATE 8/10/15: From terrified and trembling creature at the shelter, to couch potato who adores her foster mama! That's TRIXIE, lab/collie mix! One year old, smart, and housetrained already! You've got to meet this lady! Our process begins with an application! ADOPTION GUIDELINES: For animals in care at the Campbell County Shelter, the Code of Virginia stipulates that unsterilized pets may be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell County. If you are a resident of one of these areas, you may adopt directly from the facility and have the pet spayed/neutered within 30 days, or by the time the pet is six months of age. IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE OUR LOCAL ADOPTION AREA: you may adopt, but the pet must be spayed or neutered before you can take it home. For puppies or kittens too young to be spayed/neutered before adoption (under six months of age), you may adopt through Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. There is an adoption fee required for this process. We begin with an application. Go to www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org. We ask that you have a veterinarian on record who can verify that your other pets were/are well-cared for, spay/neutered, and kept updated on their vaccines. Pets identified as being “fostered” are available for a fee. Fees range from $50 to $300. Fostered pets are not at the Campbell County Shelter and the animal wardens may not be familiar with those pets. Again, we start with an application. Foster parents will contact the applicants about their applications. A meeting would be set up once the application has been received and approved.
