Unknown breed : : Male : : Senior : : Medium
When you are in such agony that you can’t walk, …. Turtle Max came to us yesterday. He is a middle-aged boy, neutered, microchipped, and about 70 pounds. Upon intake, he curled up on his Kuranda bed, shivering in fright, and we planned to give him time to decompress. When Dr. Hoss peeked in at him, she noted that she needed to look at his nails, so we enticed him to get up and move around. We were floored to see that his toenails had grown so long, they had curled around and were piercing his toe pads. One was actually embedded in the pad and was nearly coming through the other side. The pain must have been horrendous, but this was how Turtle had been living most likely for months. We are grateful that we can bring some comfort to Turtle now, but he requires four types of medication daily, as well as foot soaks to draw out the infection in his feet. Despite the discomfort he felt during the nail trim, he was a brave, good patient, and only winced a couple times. Even better, following the procedure, when we took him out on the grass to celebrate, he pranced! He was thrilled at being able to actually move comfortably again. What a transformation for him! follow his journey as he continues his healing!
