Do you recognize leaner, happier Tawny? He has been with Campbell County Animal Control and then with FOAC for many months. He needs a forever home very soon, as his Board and Train time with K9 Adventure Camp has been completed  — and other dogs need the spot for  training. Tawny is 15 months old now, and has benefited greatly from training time. The exercise opportunities he has had mean he is lean, sleek, and energetic but he is not as sports-oriented as many other dogs, and in fact, while he loves short bursts of activity, he does love cuddling up and being a lap dog. at the foster home where he has been staying, he has had the opportunity to be with many other dogs, and while there is one that he gets along with well, in general, he will be better off as an only dog. We know there is a home out there for him. And he has been totally sponsored for adoption. Neutered, housetrained, and great with children. No cats, please! Update: Yet another term used to describe this boy is RELIABLE! One of the team members of the local high school cross-country team "hosted" Tawny for a couple weekends when she needed a running buddy, and he was perfect! She also discovered that he loves doing agility-type activities, and another volunteer had him jumping logs and tires at the nearby course for training criminal justice students. Such fun! Kids! Whether you are a canine or a human, there’s something about water and dirt that just attracts kids. Tawny gave us a big grin yesterday before he went on his great adventure, around the side of the shelter, and was so excited to see not only the water in use, but also a giant hill of red dirt near the edge of the school property. He couldn’t resist, and as an indulgent volunteer, I felt like it was important for him to climb the mountain! Tawny is everything you need in a dog: curious, adventurous, eager to please, energetic, whatever you want! (I thought it might be fun for him to use the bulldozer, but he couldn’t figure out how to get in.)

Thinking of all the adjectives we can muster for Tawny, and we get a range of descriptive terms that apply to fun-loving young people as well. Goofy, silly, crazy about water sports, social with humans, enjoys toys, active, athletic, good sense of humor, smart, quick-learner, devoted, can be gentle with children, and then move on to his great attitude with humans in general. He gives love easily, and wants to be loved in return. He can attach to humans easily, has a wish to be a lap dog, and can serve as your best friend. This one-year-old dog is neutered, housetrained to a “T,” current with vaccines, and wants to learn to play with other dogs. That will require some guidance on the part of his handler, because he is pushy and excited when he sees others and wants to play with them. We are helping him understand the good social graces for learning to do that! He is one of the smartest dogs we have had, and we look forward to working with him more with training.
