So many wonderful things we can say about Gem! She has been in our care for three months, and just completed her heartworm treatment. It is not easy to place dogs that are heartworm positive, but we like to have a nice stable location for them before we commit to treatment. Gem took 30 days of pre-treatment doxycycline, as well as prednisone, to prepare for her aggressive heartworm treatment. She had to remain quiet and calm for two months during the actual administration of immiticide to kill the heartworms in  stages. At this point, with her final injection given a couple weeks ago, she is now ready for her clearance heartworm test in a month, and then can be spayed in August. It has been a long, arduous series of vet exams and treatments for her! She is fortunate that she is in a foster home where she can hang out with other calm dogs, cats, and her favorite human as well.  She loves other dogs, is interested in the cats, but is also a real lover of humans. If a lap beagle is what you are seeking, Gem is your girl.
