This is Max, a one year old Shih Tzu with the cutest little bobbed tail you have ever seen! Max has been in foster care for several months while we have continued assessing his medical needs and physical condition. When he first arrived, Max was in despicable condition, with mats, tangles, and feces cemented to his body. He was unable to defecate, and appeared to have been kept in a crate for hours on end. Despite his condition, Max was a happy boy, thrilled to have a bath, and even happier to go to a foster home with the most understanding Foster Mom willing to work with his inability to potty easily. We discovered that Max’s tail had been broken at some point, and was impeding the passage of poop, so tail amputation was in order. Max now has a 1 inch bobtail, and while it is adorable, and has made a big difference in his ability to control his fecal output, his mom says on occasion he will still have a drip or two of feces that he does not appear to be able to control. It is manageable because it is very small amounts, but an adopter needs to be fully aware of this, and willing to do cleanup as necessary of both Max and the floor if needed. Here is what we are looking for as far as a new home for Max: he loves children, so sweet children over the age of three or four would be ideal. Max does beautifully with other dogs, and his foster mom feels another dog his same size and close in age would keep him happy. He is fine with cats, but a cats-only environment would probably not be the best for him. He needs to play like a dog and with another dog! We realize this is a lot to ask of an adopter, but we are sure there is someone out there that will be just right for Max. Please start with an application which you can find on our website, and of course, for any pets already in the home, we expect they will be current with exams, spayed/ neutered, and up to date with their vaccines.
