“Two together—“

We organize play groups and playmates at the shelter all the time, so it may not seem like a big deal that these two are hanging out together. But for us and especially for LILITH, it is huge! it is so much easier to find a home for a dog when we can tell families that the dog gets along with other dogs, or gets along with cats, or loves children. There just seem to be a lot more people who want to add a dog that needs to have those qualifications. Lilith has had a couple run ins with other dogs that didn’t end on a positive note. But after watching her interact through the fence at the shelter without reaction to several other dogs, we felt maybe she just hadn’t found the right friend.

Lilith and Ruckus participated in cross-country running Saturday morning with no issues. Ruckus is laid-back and easy-going and we knew he would never start anything. He likes to mind his own business, put his nose to the ground, and do his own thing. That’s the kind of companion that Lilith requires if she’s going to go into a home with another dog. Our two awesome volunteers who are knowledgeable and observant with dog behavior and body language worked with these two dogs yesterday allowing them to mingle without issues, and we were pleased to see that they could even share treats, share exercise space, and be within close range of one another without any problems. Big deal! Huge deal! Game changer! Please consider adopting from our shelter. We give you down and dirty facts about behavior, and we help you pick the right dog for your situation. Apply to adopt here: www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.

This beauty of magnificent proportions is our very special Lilith! Seven years old, Lilith is the most perfect pitbull you could ever imagine. She is beautifully housetrained, adores humans, and we think she would be a great babysitter for kids four or five years old or older. She is nonplussed by the chaos at the shelter, and looks forward more than anything else to getting out with the volunteers for one on one time. We were devastated that she was signed over to the shelter two months ago by the spouse of someone who had abandoned her. She did her best to fit into the shelter but it wasn’t easy because she tested positive for heartworms and has had to have special low activity treatment while we are treating her.  For a dog who had never ever seen a veterinarian, we are pleased that her “only” issue was  heartworms. If you are not familiar with heartworms, it’s important to understand that they are not contagious from one dog to another, but are spread by mosquitoes which will bite an infected dog and then proceed to another dog and bite that one. Testing your dogs yearly for heartworms will prevent needing heartworm treatment, and preventive is available to give monthly so you will never have to go through what Lilith has gone through. She has one more heartworm treatment, scheduled for the middle of this month, and then will need to have a few weeks of limited activity with leash walking. That will make her very happy! This happy dog  will sit, lay down, give you a paw, and then give the other paw. She would really like to have a sofa to sleep on, and a human to cuddle with. we are asking that there be no cats in the household, because she does not like cats. Although she might be OK with other dogs, she had a bad experience when she was taken home on a trial and had to run in with the other dogs in the household. It’s just easier for us to ask for her new family to have no other dogs in the household and not plan to use a dog park for exercise. Of course when you have a dog this beautiful, you don’t want to share her love with anyone else anyway, do you? She is that awesome! Please give Lilith a chance if you are an only-dog family, because she really deserves it. What else can we tell you? Start with an application and we’ll see what we can do.
