UPDATE: Sugar is now in foster care and is doing great! She's getting her daily medicated baths and medication and her fur is already coming back in. She is happy and content and hopes to have a permanent family soon. - - -

SUGAR arrived at the shelter as a stray, brought in after she wandered up to the house of a family in a rural part of our county. No one recognized her, and she was in need of help immediately.  Sugar is the sweetest girl imaginable and earned her name not only because of her personality, but also because of the location where she was found: Sugar Hill, in Campbell County.  Her list of needs is many. Her skin and coat were a mess, with missing patches of coat, and raw areas of infection. Her teats were enlarged and engorged, and she was producing milk indicating she had recently given birth (no puppies were in sight, however.)  Her teeth are broken off and she will need a dentistry once she is stabilized. She is slightly anemic, is underweight, yet she is the happiest lady around! She ignores cats, is fine with dogs, and loves humans. She is undergoing care overseen by the medical team at Ridgewood Animal Hospital, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Lane, and she is receiving care and love from her foster family, which includes medications and daily bathing.  We are greatly relieved that Sugar is heartworm negative, and negative for tickborne diseases as well, and her liver and kidney functions appear to be normal.
