UPDATE: Crown spent Thursday having a dentistry, and he feels so much better! Seven teeth were extracted, and the remaining are now pearly white and no longer covered with green infection. Crown has another surgery planned in a couple weeks—a neuter, which will hopefully take care of any possible issues with testicular cancer. His foster mom tells us he is totally housetrained, and a super little houseguest. - - -

Ten year old Crown is a sweet Pomeranian who was signed over by his family. Crown’s preventive medical care has been non-existent; while he is a happy boy, medically he is a work in progress. His baseline bloodwork was good, so that is a positive. Following his complete physical exam last week, we found that Crown has a grade four heart murmur, so we are medically caring for him very cautiously, keeping that in mind. He is heartworm negative, has advanced dental disease, and needs a neuter. First on the agenda is a complete dentistry, because his teeth are literally green from infection. The veterinarian noted that he has many loose teeth, and severe gum disease. She is concerned that his testicles are two different sizes, as that can be indicative of testicular cancer. Once he recovers from his dentistry, then we will tackle the neuter. In the meantime, his foster mom is loving him, and spoiling him to pieces. Crown is a chunky monkey, eating well despite his loose teeth, and his foster mom tells us he likes to lay on the back of the sofa. At 15 pounds he is really overweight! We know he’s good with cats and he is fine with other dogs. He loves nothing more than being a lap dog, and then devoted to his family. We will consider only families who have no fear of long-term commitment for his medical needs, because after ten years of neglect, Crown deserves the best!
