Ever been on a roller-coaster? If so, you know what a weird feeling you get as you go round the curves, up and down, and every which-way! Spike's life has been a bit of a whirl, just like that.  We aren't sure what he encountered prior to coming to the shelter, but now he is in a stable environment, with lots of friends hanging out with him, taking him for walks, and giving him special attention all day long. He is still taking antibiotics for his skin infection, but his ear problems have finally cleared up, and he loves being the star of the show when we offer him new toys to play with. Spike recently tore one of his ACL's, and has been relegated to just leash walking again. He was neutered last week (Hurray!!) and doesn't seem to notice the loss of his boy parts one bit! We know it will help him be less anxious about meeting other dogs, and are glad we could get that done.  Next project for us? Get him adopted! Spike is the absolute best boy! He adores humans, with or without toys in hand. He has a special affinity to one of our male volunteers, recognizes his truck when Steve comes to visit, and meets Steve at the kennel gate with a toy in his mouth! We think it is adorable! We are anxious to find a home for Spike. Are you ready to help him out of the shelter, and into a home?

Welcome to the “I feel good!”  world, Spike!  We are sure glad we took the time to get to know you, the initiative to get you cared for at the vet office, and the chance to hang out with other dogs in our care, because we found a sweetheart hiding under a skin and ear infection, a dog that needed some confidence and assistance making canine friends. make friends. We are encouraged by Spike’s happy attitude and his willingness to be loved.  Spike weighs about 55 pounds, and his visit to the vet was fun for him although slightly stressful. We discovered Spike has an inhalant allergy which caused his ears to become inflamed, and a flea allergy.  He is being treated with steroids and antibiotics, and he is already feeling better. He feels like royalty, and he greatly appreciates what we are doing for him. He has learned the shelter routine easily, and walks great on a leash, although he does pull a bit. We know Spike has been loved, as he accepts handling easily. He is not picky about his food and eats well for us. We appreciate dogs who are not choosy eaters! If you would like to ask specific questions about Spike, please email: FOACinfo@gmail.com
