Heidi and her family invited Clancy for an Adventure Dog Outing on Sunday afternoon! He was pretty excited by getting all gussied up in his special harness, a scarf, and his collar with a tag with identifying phone numbers. (Apparently, he’s a rather rowdy traveler in the car, so Heidi was glad she had extra hands to assist her.) Clancy enjoyed the hike on the trail to Liberty University’s Snowplex area, and we understand he enjoyed the view from the top, and only barked on ce while he was on the trail! It was definitely one tired pup on his return to the shelter. It’s always good to see how dogs will react when they are taken out in public, and we were thrilled that Clancy had the opportunity for an outing.

Are you interested in adopting a wonderful excited older dog? We think he’s about 10 years old, and we have been trying for literally months to find him a home. His ideal home: a fenced yard, and a doggie door with access to both inside and outside areas. Although we don’t know what his background was, Clancy arrived at the shelter last November in horrible condition, thin, with a massive skin infection which had led to his hair loss, and completely unsocialized. We speculate that Clancy was kept in a dog lot all of his life, and somehow escaped or was released from his hellish conditions in time to be found as a stray in the parking lot of a local grocery store. Sadly, his companion passed away in the night just hours after arriving at the shelter. This is one reason we are all so determined that he must find a home and have some form of normalcy and love before he also passes to the rainbow bridge. Something about Clancy makes us all work hard to share, and to encourage those looking for a dog to consider him. Clancy is fine with other dogs, but chases cats. He’s been fine with all the humans he meets, and is vocal when he recognize his friends. He will not be a good choice for an apartment, but will enjoy long walks, and will love you unconditionally.

This happy boy is at least 10 years old, according to the vet office who examined him. He is an intact male, and we are calling him a St. Bernard mix. He has probably never been to a vet before, but he doesn’t care, because attention is important to him whether it comes from a medical office or from a volunteer loving on him. He was successfully treated for a skin infection due most likely to the horrendous flea infestation he had, plus malnutrition, and look at him now! He loves having a routine, and being friends with every visitor and volunteer who comes to the shelter. He is going to be the happiest boy ever once he has a forever home to retire in. His story started out pretty rough, as he was abandoned in a parking lot of a local grocery store, along with another senior who was his dearest buddy. Sadly, his little buddy passed away shortly after arrival at the shelter, leaving Clancy to make the best of shelter life. We worried about how he would handle his alone-ness, but it turns out that he has thrived! Clancy has taken his grief and converted it to JOY! He does not worry about what the future holds, but lives for today! It's the most awesome feature of dogs that have been dealt a hard beginning, being able to put the past behind them and look only at the present. Would you like to be part of Clancy's new life, and help him have many wonderful todays? Start with an application, here: friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
