This six pounder is Spanky! His mission in life appears to be to “cuddle and be cuddled.” When he was brought to our shelter we immediately asked one of our experienced foster moms to try him at her home so he would not be stressed at the shelter. He is fitting in beautifully with her other small dog, and totally ignores the cats, other than to chase them in fun, and ask them to play.  In addition he is absolutely fine with her teenager, too. At Spanky’s vet appointment recently, he was treated to a neuter and dentistry; he had a rough go, as he needed to have five teeth removed. He’s recovered well, and is ready to meet his new people. He will stay with his foster until we find him a perfect home! There will be an adoption fee of $200 to take Spanky home with you. Many are interested; however, few have given Spanky what he really needs: Time. Time to get to know new people, time to acclimate to new sounds and new rules, time to accept that his new family will be there for him.  You cannot rush things if you decide you want to meet him, and even though we tell people this over and over, they don't get it. You won't get immediate bonding with him, unless you are someone exceptional. You won't get a little guy who will fall in love with your other dog the minute Spanky meets her. You won't get lots of eye contact, and you might even get the cold shoulder. But if you are a patient person, and understand Spanky's time frame and his need for that space at the beginning, we guarantee this will be a match made in heaven. Spanky is not a social butterfly, who wants to travel all over, or go to your friends' houses or go to the ocean and be expected to love seeing all the new people. He's a stay-at-home, likes-a-schedule, and wants-his-very-own-person-to-love kind of a dog. If you aren't content with that, please keep looking. If this sounds like your kind of dog, keep on reading. No small children, please! They would prove to be too much for this little man. Start with an application, please!
