Lucy, 7 year old hound mix, has many notable personality features! We noticed from the beginning that Lucy takes treats gently—and then realized that ALL her teeth are worn down to the gum so she is not a threat at all to any fingers. Next we realized that Lucy waits patiently to be taken outside for potty duty, so she can keep her kennel run spotlessly clean. She is now happy and “hoppy,” because she feels better with her internal parasites treated and good food in her belly. While these things are observed easily, what we didn’t know until a vet exam is that Lucy is heartworm positive; at ten years of age, a strong positive test result is serious business. (Dogs contract HW when they are bitten by an infected mosquito.) If Lucy was a young dog, we would start slowkill heartworm treatment while we wait to find her a home, but at her age and the advanced stage, our vet recommends that we do aggressive treatment, which unfortunately is going to be both painful and hard on her. We are willing to give Lucy the treatment at our expense, fully sponsored, if we can find her a place to go, either foster or adoptive home. Can you help us?  Please send us a note to FOACinfo@gmail.com. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. Please note that we do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice.
