About Simba- At the Shelter

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White
  • Current Size: 27 Pounds
  • Current Age: 8 Years 11 Months (best estimate)

Our friend Simba was turned over to the shelter because he nipped at a young child who reached for him.  Because of this safety issue, we wanted him adopted only to a home with older kids or no kids, because of Simba’s reactivity to excitement. He had no issues with the youngster in his adoptive home, but we want to make sure there are no issues for him from now on. An adults-only home, with someone who is willing to consult a behaviorist or positive-reinforcement trainer is the only home we will now consider.  It appears that Simba gets very excited when he hears noises outside the house and reacts by grabbing something in his mouth, and while we know this is very workable, we also want to know that his adopter will be prepared for this. When you apply, please know that we are expecting you to provide the name of the trainer that you can work with locally. If you are in the Lynchburg area we can recommend several who will be good to consult. Well we can’t guarantee the breed mix for Simba because he is a larger boy, we feel he is most likely a bichon mix, and we believe he’s about two years old. He is house trained although he marked initially at his current home.   Simba will be neutered before he is adopted!
