He's so ready to be adopted! Mini Coop, now called COOP, has shown that he knows how to socialize with other dogs, kids, and ignore cats, and he is ready! Are you wanting energetic, nose-to-the-ground, check-it-all-out love? You need to meet this two-year old buddy, who we now think is most likely a Catahoula Leopard/Great Dane mix.  He recently moved into his new foster home where he is adjusting and adapting easily! He's been an integral part of the "family" at Altavista Animal Hospital for several weeks, and is excited about his chance to be a homebody for a while!

Coop's background: He was found with an injured back leg; something, most likely a tie-out, had become wrapped around it and cut into the flesh and muscle, leaving him lame. He was also emaciated, and weighed in at least 30 pounds underweight. It took two weeks for the infection in his leg to clear up, and then the vet became concerned because he was not gaining weight. He has put on a few pounds now, and has some to go. He gets around on three legs, however, because apparently the tendons were damaged enough to keep him from using his rear leg as he needs. He holds it high in the air, however, rather than dragging it. That's a plus and it's manageable. It's possible that in the future, he will need his leg amputated, but for now, all is well.

Coop has been tested with other dogs, kids and cats. He is fine in all departments!
